A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with Gilad Atzmon & Karen Edwards at Theatre of the NO
American pianist and vocalist Karen Edwards, appearing in Athens for the first time, joins internationally acclaimed saxophonist Gilad Atzmon for a distinctive jazz tribute to the legendary singer. They are joined by Yaron Stavi on double bass and Panagiotis Themas on drums.
Two special evenings celebrating the timeless artistry of Ella Fitzgerald are coming to Theatre of the NO on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October.
Karen Edwards is a versatile pianist, vocalist, composer and arranger whose work moves effortlessly between jazz, gospel, improvisation and symphonic music. Over the course of her international career, she has collaborated with leading artists including Stevie Wonder, Prince and Tony Bennett, as well as Peabo Bryson, Nigel Kennedy, Lee Konitz and Pharoah Sanders.
Her artistic journey began in Los Angeles following an invitation from Stevie Wonder, and has since developed into an international career of touring, recording and performing throughout Europe and the United States. Alongside her work in jazz, she has presented original compositions and arrangements with Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), and symphony orchestras in Gdańsk and Łódź.
Her discography includes Everything Ice, nominated for a Fryderyk Award for Jazz Recording of the Year, as well as Winter Moments and Moods and Polish Songs. Her projects also include My Affair with James Bond, blending jazz with orchestral and film music.
At Theatre of the NO, Karen Edwards and Gilad Atzmon pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald through a vibrant live performance filled with swing, improvisation and the expressive freedom of jazz.
