From New York to Athens, with contemporary jazz at its heart
Bringing the sound and energy of New York’s contemporary jazz scene to Athens, the Benno Marmur Trio creates a unique musical encounter that connects the rich jazz tradition of the American metropolis with Athens’ contemporary creative scene.
A guitarist with a strong presence in New York
Based in New York, Benno Marmur has performed at some of the city’s most important jazz venues, including Smalls, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Iridium, Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem, as well as Nublu and Ornithology.
His career also includes performances at jazz venues and festivals across the United States and Europe. He has collaborated with leading musicians from the international jazz scene, including Grant Stewart, Vincent Herring, Jimmy Madison, Warren Chiasson, Clovis Nicolas, Erena Terakubo, Mark Whitfield, Fukushi Tainaka, Grant Green Jr., Eric Wheeler, Marcus McLaurine, New York Voices, Chris Potter, and Bill Charlap with the WPUNJ Big Band, among others.
New York meets Athens
For his Athens performance, Benno Marmur joins forces with two prominent Greek jazz musicians: Jason Wastor on drums and Kimon Karoutzos on bass.
Their collaboration creates a dynamic musical dialogue between the two cities, with improvisation, communication and contemporary jazz aesthetics at the heart of the performance.
From the stage to the record label
Benno Marmur is now part of the roster of Cellar Live, a prominent independent record label dedicated to contemporary jazz.
