A Story Rooted in Greek Jazz

George Barakos was one of the iconic figures of the Greek jazz scene. He created Greece’s first jazz club in Anafiotika, Plaka, at the foot of the Acropolis, next to the Church of Agios Nikolaos Ragavas. The venue became a unique meeting point for musicians and jazz enthusiasts, leaving a lasting mark on Athens’ cultural life.

The Barakos Orchestra was created to keep this legacy alive through music. With twelve musicians on stage, the ensemble brings together different musical journeys, influences, and individual identities, united by a shared belief in the freedom of musical expression.
