Unripe Cherries by Michael Anthis

Autumn of 2025 brings to theatre audiences one of the most talked-about productions of recent years. The award-winning play Unripe Cherries by Michael Anthis, directed by the acclaimed Manousos Manousakis, embarks on a tour across Greece from October 3 to 20, with stops in Serres, Drama, Lamia, Pyrgos, and Veria.

Starring Tania Trypi and Konstantinos Kazakos, the play sheds light on the dark corners of family life—where silence can hide the loudest secrets.

A Play that “Breaks” the Silence

The story unfolds within an apparently peaceful family in the Greek countryside. Stathis, a doctor and promising politician, and Fani, a former executive who gave up her career for her family, see their quiet life collapsing through the unpredictable and provocative behavior of their 15-year-old daughter, Maria.

Videos, secrets, violent clashes, and dark revelations bring to the surface the “monster” lurking in the shadows. A psychological thriller that explores domestic violence and the silence that feeds it. As the author poignantly notes:
“Sometimes silence makes the most dangerous noise.”

The Creators

Manousos Manousakis’s direction brings Michael Anthis’s text to life, while the stage atmosphere is completed with Maria Karathanou’s sets and costumes and Giannis Makridis’s music.

On stage, alongside the two protagonists, cellist Stavros Parginos performs, while the voice of Maria is rendered by Jenny Kazakou, adding a uniquely emotional dimension.

Why See It?

  • Because it is a play that shakes you and addresses issues too often hidden behind closed doors.
  • Because it combines the intensity of a thriller with the lyricism of theatre.
  • Because they promise moments that will stay etched in your memory.
