Encardia: A Celebration of Music and Dance from Southern Italy at Theatre of the NO
Encardia return to Theatre of the NO on Saturday 21 November at 21:30 for an evening filled with the rhythms, colours and emotions of the rich musical traditions of Southern Italy and the Mediterranean.
Drawing on the tarantella traditions of Salento and Naples, and inspired by the Greek-speaking regions of Southern Italy, the acclaimed ensemble presents an explosive live performance combining traditional songs, original compositions, contemporary arrangements and Mediterranean dance.
Love, loss, longing and return unfold through Encardia’s musical storytelling. From songs of migration and nostalgia to the powerful, cathartic dance forms of the tarantella, the evening becomes a concert-celebration with the audience actively invited into the experience.
Founded in 2004, Encardia have given more than 3,000 performances across Greece and Europe. Inspired by the music of Southern Italy and the Mediterranean, the group has developed a distinctive artistic path through collaborations with important representatives of Southern Italian music, as well as acclaimed Greek artists.
