MATCH – A Gripping Psychological Drama

The new theater season kicks off dynamically with a play that’s sure to spark conversation. Starting October 1, 2025, the Mousouri Theater will host the powerful psychological drama The Match by Stephen Belber, translated and directed by Giorgos Kimoulis.

After its impressive run last year, the play returns with renewed energy in a production that combines the depth of contemporary theater with the high acting demands of an intense, deeply human story.

The Plot

Tobi Powell, a retired and once-famous choreographer from New York, now lives in isolation, devoted to his quiet, solitary routine. When he receives a visit from a young couple, Lisa and Mike Davis—who claim they want to interview him for an academic dissertation—nothing hints at the emotional explosion that is about to unfold.

What starts as an innocent conversation quickly transforms into an intense psychological confrontation, as Tobi’s past is unearthed in painful detail, revealing a secret that refuses to be forgotten.

This is a play about fatherhood, identity, truth, and forgiveness, drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s line “What’s past is prologue.” Because, as Belber reminds us, everything we’ve lived still defines who we are.
