FOOTBALL | The Game of Humanity – A Unique Theatrical Journey Across Greece
A performance that is not simply "played" – it is experienced. FOOTBALL | The Game of Humanity, the prophetic monologue by Thanasis Triaridis, returns for a nationwide tour across cities in Greece, with the iconic Sifis Polyzoidis in the leading role. A theatrical experience that blends political satire, historical reflection, social critique, and philosophical introspection – all through the story of football.
From the Field to the Conscience
The play begins in 1500 A.D. and unfolds the course of humanity through the sphere of the ball. The viewer is called upon to see themselves not as a passive observer, but as a co-responsible participant in the trajectory of the world.
Through seven roles, the actor embodies:
- An actor who resists the very text he’s performing.
- A Native American from 1500 mourning the genocide of his ancestors.
- A football fan crying out for justice.
- A monkey that transforms into a fan.
- A teacher speaking of history’s recurring cycles.
- A team president with a chilling indifference to blood.
- A retired footballer returning to score with the full force of his ancient soul.
Audience Participation: Not Just Spectators, but Co-creators
This play doesn’t simply denounce — it demands dialogue. It wants the audience alert, engaged, and thinking critically. As the playwright himself notes, the future of theatre lies in touching, shaking, and hurting. And FOOTBALL does this in a direct, intimate, deeply human way.
“…if you’re asleep on your feet, it’ll turn into Beckett — despair and darkness…”
